PB Carp: 49.05 lbs / 22.4 kgs
Age:
68 years young
Occupation: Draughtsman, Design Engineer, Prototype Engineer. 1974 left engineering to
become full time rod builder. Currently director of Gold Label Tackle.
Began Carp Fishing: Late 1950's when carp were rarer than honest politicians. In the first four years took three carp (blanked one year) and never met, on the bank or anywhere else, another angler who had ever tried to catch a carp.
Other Species Pb: 75lb Siamese from Thailand
Favourite Bait: Spicy Shrimp & Prawn
Favourite Rig: Long shank blow-back.
Favourite Waters: Several which are quiet and peaceful, not necessarily holding large carp.
Most Memorable Catches: First 20lb Carp in 1968 (22.25, the first 20 taken from Canwell Pool in Warwickshire). Carp of 25, 20 and 17.5lb from Plantsbrook Reservoir, Birmingham in 1974.
Achievements: President of The British Carp Study Group. Discovering that carp could be identified from their scale patterns. Inventing the Rod Sling for the roving carp angler (now generally termed quivers). Inventing the 'drop off indicator' used mainly for pike fishing.
Likes: Fishing pleasant waters in good company, or failing that in my own company. Watching younger or less experienced anglers catch a fish which thrills them.
Dislikes: Anglers who do not respect their surroundings or their quarry.
Likes: Cigarettes, red wine, seeing sun rises and sets, laughter and seeing other
people laughing and enjoying themselves.
Dislikes: Anglers who do not respect their surroundings or their quarry.
Other Favourite Species: Tarpon or Bonefish on the fly. Any species, anywhere, which I have not caught before!
